Wei-Shen

Wei-Shen is one of Australia’s most respected house DJs who hosts a cult following worldwide. On top of having showcased his talents at packed Full Moon parties on the frenetic beaches of Ko-Pha-Ngan, exclusive underground parties in Asia, and being an international resident for European clubbing brand Kinki Malinki, he has captivated crowds at some of the world’s most renowned clubbing venues. To name a few, Fabrique (Moscow), Turnmills (London), Gorgeous @ The Apartment (Dubai), Djoon (Paris), Mad (Switzerland), Attica (Singapore), Dragon-i (Hong Kong), Velvet Underground (Kuala Lumpur), Q Bar (Bangkok), Paradise Club (Mykanos), The Circle (Seoul), Arena (Kiev), Red Box (Dublin), Warehouse 135 (Manila) and Mint Bar (Koh Samui).

Back in his beloved Australia, Wei-Shen’s stature continues to blossom as he holds residencies at some of Australia’s finest clubbing establishments including Famous @ Queensbridge (being Australia’s biggest club night), Kink (Sydney) (interstate resident) and Bedroom (Gold Coast) amongst others. He also regularly commands the dance floors of some of our most notorious events such as Summadayze, Pacha, Betterdays, Good Vibrations, Two Tribes, Gods Kitchen, We Love, Future Music Festival and Ministry of Sound. As an indication of his widespread popularity, he was impressively crowned as one of Australia’s leading house DJs in last year’s national In The Mix DJ poll. Wei-Shen also often hosts guest shows on the dedicated dance radio station Kiss FM, and broadcasts a fortnightly radio show on www.ssradiouk.com, www.pulseradio.net, www.radio_stylo.com, www.fullhouseradio.com, www.dfr.fm, and www.tokyma.fm each of which are regarded as Europe’s and Australasia’s premier house music online radio stations with a combined audience in the millions. And as of 2008, Wei-Shen is proudly sponsored by Calvin Klein Jeans.

In September 2007, Wei-Shen was commissioned by Ministry of Sound to mix the Housexy Spring 2007 compilation alongside Alan Thompson (which sold in excess of 20,000 units) and toured throughout Australia extensively to promote the compilation. Having been compared to Bob Sinclar during his infancy, Wei-Shen is renowned for his interactive and cheeky style, never failing to deliver an infectious performance. Resisting the fashionable trends towards indie and electronica, Wei-Shen plays his unique brand of belearic house music as his sets infuse afrocentric percussion, Latin rhythms, uplifting vocals, a dash of electro, French-inspired disco and a huge dose of funk. This must be recipe for success as he has shared the bill with international giants including Frankie Knuckles, Boris Dlugosh, Roger Sanchez, Bob Sinclar, David Guetta, Joachim Garraud, DJ Gregory, Kenny Dope, Junior Jack & Kid Creme, Laidback Luke, Dirty South, Boy George, DJ Falcon, Full Intention, Sandy Rivera, Mark Knight, Lenny Fontana, DJ Spen, Steve Lawler and Mark Farina amongst many others. On top of having DJed at various Melbourne Fashion Week, F1 Grand Prix and Spring Racing Carnival events since 2002, and being invited to DJ at the official 2006 Commonwealth Games after-parties, he has played at some ultra-sexy private parties including for Paris Hilton, Jackie Chan, FTV and Elite Model Management and for fashion houses such as Karl Langerfeld, Gucci, Agnis B and Hugo Boss.

Wei-Shen’s foray into music production has been successful to say the least. Joined by long time friends Maarcos and Atridge, these boys produce under the moniker “Those Usual Suspects” and already have a long list of production credits to their name. Their tracks have toppled music charts worldwide and have been championed by the global house music fraternity (notable mentions include the Swedish House Mafia, Erick Morillo, Bob Sinclar, Martin Solveig, Roger Sanchez, David Guetta, Sandy Rivera and DJ Gregory). Their remix works include Bob Sinclar “Together”, Back To Fundamentals presents Torre “Higher” (which is destroying dancefloors throughout the world), and Kings of Tomorrow (featuring Julie McKnight) “Finally” (which is included on Defected’s Eivissa 2008 compilation and the Bargrooves Anthems 2008 compilation).

Their maiden solo single “Dakka” which was released on Bob Sinclar’s Africanism/Yellow Productions in November 2007 and remixed by Louie Vega, was also featured in July 2007 on Pete Tong’s BBC Radio 1. Their follow up was “Greece 2000” which was released on Ministry of Sound and pundits have already billed it one of the biggest club tunes of 2008. Also keep your eyes peeled for their next solo release “Shadow (In Your Mind)”, a balearic house anthem with Abigail Bailey on vocals which is signed to Ministry of Sound.

Already heralded as one of the biggest house acts to ever come out of Australia, 2008 is going to be a very big year for Wei-Shen and Those Usual Suspects …
