One of Asia’s most internationally prominent DJ, Aldrin has been at the forefront of Asia’s dance music scene, flying the Singapore flag throughout the four corners of the world, garnering acclaim at every stop from press, punters and fellow DJs alike. For the last decade, he has been a musical ambassador to the infamous Zouk Club in Singapore – one of the world’s Top 10 Clubs, and he also runs his very own digital label – OneWithMusic, amidst a barrage of remixes and releases on other international labels.
Aldrin’s global profile is bolstered by the reputation he commands on home turf – with dance music Magazine Muzik citing him as “One of the world’s finest residents”, and voted “Best Local DJ” for 2 years running by local leading publication Juice Magazine. Having played a crucial role in building up the vibrant dance scene in Singapore, Aldrin packs out Zouk with faithful fans on his headline night “One”.
Prior to this, Aldrin’s plaudit list was already nothing short of impressive, having begun the millennium as the only Asian to be featured as DJ of the Month and being named “a contender for Best New DJ” in UK’s Dance Magazine Muzik. Following that, he became the first Asian DJ to appear on the cover of Muzik, with credit for mixing the magazine’s “most on-form” covermount cd. All these, along with superstar DJ Danny Tenaglia singling him out as his Future DJ Hero in DJ Mag’s Top 100 poll, has propelled Aldrin onto the international platform. Renowned for his genre-bending fusion – from minimal to electro, tribal to progressive, tech house to techno and everything in between, Aldrin has consistently thrilled crowds of thousands with his flawless, genre bending sets. Abroad, Aldrin has been spreading his vibes all over Asia, Europe, and North America, becoming a regular in-demand guest fixture at nights such as Renaissance in London, Pacha, Space and DC10 in Ibiza, plus special appearances at Danny Tengalia’s Be Yourself Parties during the Winter Music Conference in Miami, and also at Arc in New York. Aldrin was even referred to as Asia’s NUMBER ONE DJ to catch in Ibiza by Muzik, was nominated for “Best New Comer” for the Ibiza DJ Awards in 2004, and he continues his presence on the white isle every summer.
In the studio, Aldrin’s productions have not gone unnoticed. Releases on international imprints like UK’s Renaissance, Distraekt and Cr2; Italy’s Cosmonote Blue and MCGroove; and Australia’s Bamboo Music; have all received rave reviews, were charted in DJ Mag Buzz Chart, DMC Buzz Chart and Music Week’s Cool Cuts Chart; and were playlisted by topdogs like John Digweed, Hernan Cattaneo, Pete Tong, Nic Fanciulli, Dave Seaman, and Tom Stephan, to name a few. Aldrin’s remix of “Love In New Wave” by local rock band Electrico was even championed by Pete Tong on his BBC Radio One show! 2 compilation CDs – Zouk’s Rhythm1 (DJ Magazine 5 star rating; IDJ Magazine 4 star rating), and the more recent ThinkingOutLoudAsia Pres Zouk CD, only adds to his growing global profile.
OneWithMusic – Aldrin’s digital label just launched in February, will continue to showcase his production output, and also act as a platform for the many talents in and around Asia. The label’s 1st 2 releases have already caused quite a stir amongst a variety of DJs – from Hernan Cattaneo to Stephan Hinz to DJ Chuz.
With a 2-hour guest mix for Pete Tong’s world-renowned Essential Mix radio show (making Aldrin the only South East Asian to be featured on the show!); plus forthcoming remixes and releases on other major imprints like USA’s System Recordings, Spain’s Beatfreak and Germany’s Greatstuff; and handpicked by Marco Bailey in the most recent DJ Mag Top 100 poll as the “Breakthrough DJ in 2008”, Aldrin is definitely Asia’s rising star in the global dance scene!
